This system provides a deliberate facility if a key is left on the inside of a door so that a key inserted on the outside can still operate the lock. 

This functionality can prove invaluable in an emergency, especially to prevent vulnerable people getting locked inside their own homes. It is not only recognised to save time (and costs in having a locksmith attend) but has proven a life-saving feature for incidents where a vulnerable person has fallen and emergency services need to gain entry when there is a key holder present but the key is in the lock on the inside of the door.
